Alexandra Santos

Alexandra Santos’ work is about notions of Nature as Other and broader aspects of dualism, notions of reality, interpretation and alienation. Her work often depicts animals as Symbols and metaphors for the estranged nature, drawing inspiration from Cosmology, Surrealism, Film Noir, fairy tales and mythology.
Santos’ practise as a whole embraces serendipity and draws from personal oneiric elements to explore aspects of the personal/public overlap of the action.
Recently Santos has been delving into and incorporating aspects of the myth of the “tridimensional Female” (Virgin, Goddess, Witch – Mother, Whore, Muse).
and the idea of dichotomy, for example; an understanding the Descartes legacy; History; Movement in the Performance arts (dance forms, the body as medium); Nature (Ecology) and the symbiosis between Culture and Nature.
